Idea: Create your own documentary on a success story related to issues of class and culture in America.Although it can deal with harsh issues, the story should have a positive message.
Think of the ‘Confessions of Rosalee’ and make up a fictional story of a person from New Bedford dealing with similar issues.
Tell the story of that person’s life by using PowerPoint slides to do two things: 1) increase awareness on the issues by presenting facts & statistics and 2) describe the experiences and events of that person’s life.
Example: The slides can present a chronological story, from childhood to adulthood, as Rosalee’s did.The story can be about a famous athlete that began from poverty, a person who overcame incredible challenges to succeed on their own, or a person who has a positive message to tell others about mistakes made in their life. You can be creative.
Slide #1 can be an introduction describing your character and explaining how their story begins.Slide #2 can present a statistic on issues dealing with childhood or education, similar to your character’s childhood.Slide #3 can go back to the person’s story, using images to convey their experiences.Slide #4 can go back to other statistics or facts, and so on.
Background: Gandhi once stated that poverty is the worst form of violence. It is a tragic component of capitalism and it affects different ethnic and cultural groups at different levels.Though the United States is the world’s wealthiest nation overall, it has one of the highest percentages of poverty in the industrial world.America presents many opportunities, however, and our nation is the most diverse in the world. These are great strengths!Create a story and tell it on PowerPoint describing challenges related to issues of class and culture and demonstrate how individuals can overcome them.

Who do you thinkof when people talk about breaking barriers? Possibly Jackie Robinson, but have you heard of Cesar Hernandez. Cesar paved the way for Dominican baseball players. We didnt have a lot. Irememberoften stealing food after our meals because they were so small I wouldnt be satisfied my stomach still ached andso my brothers and sisters. I would go to outside markets and steal foodrather then going to landfills where most people went . Most of the food was gross , it was garbage there wasnt ever much to expect.I knew after I experienced the landfill I was determined to never go back so I stole.
Different from the adolescentsCesar had strong unique hands. On his way to his daily stealing routine a man named Roberto Alvareza wealthy man living nearby him gave him a job helping him in his farm and field. Asa method of earning money Cesar began to attend school He was well likedby teachers and considered an outstanding student. His job made it possible and his starve for education .
I could not have done this without Roberto he was like a father figure helping me make the right choices letting me work in his field to feed and clothe my familywas the biggest blessing without him and my single mother who considered me different from the adolescent siblings she told me she knew I was going to be bigbecause of the determination I had and the hunger to learn. My mom cherished how I worked for the family and thanked me everyday for it.
My father left us when I was 1 he was addicted toheroin . But I think him not being around made me the successful person I am.
