negative plans faced

Sommerset B - Hybrid vehicles
topicality
- we asked them for the defintion of substantially.
Inherency- oil companies do not want hybrid vehicles. We attacked this by saying: If hybrid vehicles are growing at a rapid rate then even if oil companies are against hybrid vehicles it does not affect the producing of them.
Solvency- the believe the plan will help with the dependency on oil & help solve global warming. We attacked this by saying: That the energy used to charge the batteries that run the car come from power plants that run on a buning substance such as oil, diesel and coal which harms the enviroment. Also they stated that after the battery runs out it runs on a fuel source such as oil which also harms the enviroment. WHICH does NOOOOT solve the problem.
Need-The affirmative plans believes there is a need for their plan because of the economy's dependency on oil  and because of global warming.
Workability- they said there plan would work because it will help the economy and reduce carbon emissions. We attacked this by saying that the batteries in hybrid vehicles are weak, allowing only a short range.

They also said that they wanted to have a gas tax. They wanted to do this because it would make people want to buy hybrids because there would be no gas tax on them.

 Nuclear Power

Topicality:We
asked them to define substatnially.

Inherency: In the past, public opinion has opposed the use of nuclear power but in recent years this opinion has begun to change. We attacked this by saying if it was IN THE PAST then it has no revelance to the present time. If public opinion no longer oppose the use of nuclear power then there is no inherent barrier. biggrin

Points made:
-They have loans from the government.
-Does not harm the enviroment or release any radiation.
 - In New Mexico at Yucca Mountain they are working on a waste site and should be ready by the year 2014.
