Country: Ireland. Irish Traditional Music.
The music is fueled by present-day prosperity. Irish music is increasingly popular on the world stage. Most of the traditional irish music is meant for dancing. In the mid 1960's, the present fascination with traditional music and songs sang in the Irish language began. There have a repertoire or intrumental "slow airs" that are meant to give dancers a chance to catch their breath. The instruments may be electric or acoustic. Fiddles, wood flutes, tin whistles and squeezeboxes are the most common instruments that are used. The bag pipe are an important solo instrument, mostly because it gives dancers "slow airs." Some of today's superstar fiddlers are Sean Keane (the Chieftains,) Kevin Burke and Paddy Glackin. The Irish harp has made a comback, and is a living-symbol of Ireland.
