Reviewer1.Secrets2.Not to Personal3.Mother vs. father4.Talking5.Smoking6.Drinking7.Decline in smokers8.Girls vs. boys9.Heavy smoking10.Preservation of drinking habitsWhile reviewing the site some of the things that I found most important were on the link titled Five Girls. One thing that I found important and for parents and adults to be aware of is that most young women keep secrets from their families. These all being secrets that involving sensitive issue such as boys, friends, body image, and other subjects among young girls. Another fact is that young girls are more likely to confide in their mother rather than their father. This is important to know if you are a parent of a female and are concerned about their feelings. Another fact is that kids try to avoid talking about things such as drug abuse, sex, marriage, and dating. Many of these children tend to avoid speaking of the subject and as a result they tend to be unaware of the seriousness of these actions. An example of this is smoking among teens. Although it sounds astonishing, on average, boys and girls take their first puff of a cigarette as young as 12.4 years, and of marijuana at 13.7 years, according to the U.S. Surgeon General. Teens tend to start drinking at an average age of 13 years old. There are some noticeable declines in substance abuse overall among teens. Alcohol use by adolescents 12-17 years has fallen, from 33.4 percent in 1988 to 19.1 percent in 1998. Although drinking has dropped there is a higher percentage of female smokers. Heavy smoking can predispose an adolescent to an anxiety or depressive disorder in the teen years or early adulthood, possibly by impairing respiration and damaging the blood vessels leading to the brain. Although there has been a decline in smoking among teens, heavy drinking has carried on among high school students.
